A Social Action Project has been implemented by HRH at Arunodhaya Hindu College

A Social Action Project has been implemented by HRH at Arunodhaya Hindu College in Nuwara Eliya District with the support of International United Women Federation (IUWF) by painting the desks and chairs of students they use for their study purpose. The school has been a mother school for other 4 schools which have started after 2005 but Arunodhaya school is established in 1987 with the help of Saumiyamoorthy Thoondaman by handing over a tea factory which is not in use during that period to start a school for children in the area. So far there are improvements and developments taken place in the school but still there are rooms to increase it as well. The students who took part the 25 hours leadership and skills development training from 23rd to 25th May, engaged in the Social Action Plan to mark their engagement with the society directly and to practice what they have learned as well.

”Gampaha District Committee” has met and discussed about the future plans

On May 29, “March 12 Gampaha District Committee” has met and discussed about the future plans as a team in the district on clean politics as well as to make the people’s representatives accountable and responsible. At the same time the discussion led to have public discourse on democracy and clean politics to choose the representatives with the criteria of March12. The committee planned to have regular press conferences on various themes according to the need of the district and the country. Shamabhimanya Center, NAFSO, Sarvodaya, Dabindu Collective, Stand Up Movement Lanka, Women’s Centre, Human Rights Shelter, Jaela Business Association, Sri Vimukthi, World Vision, Community Brotherhood Organization, PAFFREL and Human Rights Hub were present for the meeting. Anthony Vinoth, Executive Director of HRH led the discussion and moderated it with the contribution of the members. Both public and public representatives need to be responsible and accountable with their work through their commitment. A program is been discussed among the team to develop it further and engage with people and people’s representatives in future.

Press Conference of March12 Gampaha District Committee held in Negombo

On May 29, Press Conference of March12 Gampaha District Committee held in Negombo with the participation of members highlighting the issues faced by Free Trade Zone Workers and various other marginalized communities in the district. Anthony Vinoth, Executive Director of HRH as Co-Convener and as a representative of Human Rights Hub (HRH) taking part at the Media Briefing. The media briefing was held at the hall of NAFSO in Negombo with the presence of Sugath Rajapakshe, Nalina Ranjan, Isuri Rodrigo AAL, Iresha M Yapa explained the issues in the district representing M12 Gampaha District.

The second day of the Leadership and Skill Development Training conducted by HRH

The second day of the Leadership and Skill Development Training conducted by Human Rights Hub (HRH) with the support of International United Women Federation (IUWF) in Nuwara Eliya District at Walapane Education Division in HighForest with the participation of students from 5 schools (Arunodhaya Hindu College, HighForest Tamil Maha Vidyalayam, Princess Tamil Maha Vidyalayam, Silver Kandy College, Bharathy Tamil Maha Vidyalayam) Nearly 114 students take part at the training workshop on leadership and skills development aiming to bring reaponsible citizens to create a value based and rights based society equally respects all rights for all. The main sponsor for the training is North Carolina Peace Foundation (NCPF). The training is being held at Arunodaya Hindu College, Highforest. Anthony Vinoth, Executive Director of HRH has been the main instructor for the series of training with the support of the volunteers Saris Dilshan, Tiya Sherlin & Darshi Yesha on the second day. Specially the Ms. Sherubi from Canada representing International United Women Federation (IUWF) was present physically at the training with the accompaniment of Sanjay (Volunteer of IUWF) from Akkaraipattu.

The exposure visit of the theology students of several christian churches visited HRH office and the Executive Director Anthony Vinoth had a discussion on his experiences of the work in the field of human rights and about the start of HRH. Then they visited a fisheries community in Dikowita and later had an open discussion with Rev. S. Chrishanthi as she has been working with the fisheries communities. Discussions were held on the expansion of March 12 Movement in Gampaha

Discussions were held on the expansion of March 12 Movement in Gampaha District with the CSO network along with other sectors in the district on May 13 at NAFSO organization’s Hall. Anthony Vinoth, represented Human Rights Hub as well as coordinated the discussion as co-convenes of the Gampaha District March 12 Movement. Several CSO groups joined the discussion and had profound thoughts on the ground level. Headling towards clean politics and establishing for democracy has been primary theme at the discussion.

Human Rights Hub conducted a one day workshop on leadership to the children in Kattuwa, Negombo to empower the future leaders with the understanding of the society with deeper sense. The program was co-organized by the catechists of St. Francis De Sales and St. Jude Catechism schools for the prefects. The training was conducted at St. Claret Minot Seminary in Negombo. The Executive Director of HRH, Mr. Anthony Vinoth conducted the training with the help of the voluntary youth who are part of HRH.

United Nations’ (UN) Sri Lanka office of Human Rights with the support of the Government of Japan…

United Nations’ (UN) Sri Lanka office of Human Rights with the support of the Government of Japan conducted a 3 days workshop on Monitoring Economic, Social and Cultural Rights. The UNICEF, World Food & Agriculture Organization (FAO) too joined the event as resources. Rights Activists and representatives of Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) attended and representing Human Rights Hub (HRH) Anthony Vinoth, Executive Director participated the workshop. Lots of inputs, debates, challenges, new strategies, future engagements have been discussed along with the multiple perspectives on the above thematic areas.
